This picturesque building was built on a peninsula
between an upper skating pond and a lower trout pond, separated by a stream and waterfall.
The building's purpose is to serve as a warming hut for children skating on the pond in winter,
but it also provides a seasonal gathering spot for family and friends passing through the
surrounding gardens during milder seasons. The Warming Hut draws materials together from around
the globe. It has heavily checked fir beams from a dismantled munition factory in Minnesota, an
interior limestone mantel from Hungary, an exterior granite mantel and chimney cap from China,
granite boulders from New Hampshire, and a winged bronze dragon whose tail morphs into a long rail
surrounding the terrace.
